System Requirements
The standard Docsminder client
Docsminder requires...
- any version of MS Windows later than Windows 95 (ie, NOT Windows 95). Any modern hardware platform of at least Pentium IV or more. No special memory size or any other hardware is required.
- 50 megs for basic program, then about 10 megs for each database.
- No special libraries or runtimes are required. ie does not need .NET, VB runtimes, etc. Docsminder is fully self-contained.
- can be installed on any hard-drive, even UNC connected or mapped network drives. ie, drives do not HAVE to be mapped. In fact, you can install Docsminder to a USB pen drive, and run it from there! Docsminder is designed to be run from a central network drive, but it can also be run on a local drive (note : while it works, USB drives are really too slow to use).
- All of the program configuration files and the like are stored in the Docsminder folder structure, and are designed for multiuser/multi-workstation operation. Write access is required for the Docsminder folder (and all sub-folders).
- Docsminder can connect with any number of Databases, which can be placed anywhere. The user requires write access to these folders, of course. There is no limit to these databases.
- An Internet connection is required if you want to send email notifications. For this, Docsminder needs the SMTP server connection details (Docsminder acts as an SMTP client).
- Docsminder can be downloaded from the Internet, or provided on CDROM. It comes with an installation program that installs everything required, including a Sample Database.
Client/Server
Please note that most users will NOT need to run the Client/Server version of Docsminder. But if you do, these are the additional requirements.
-
A MS Windows operating system. Again, not Windows 95, but anything else.
- No special hardware requirements.
- 20 megs for main program, plus 10 megs for each database. Please note that you will also have to install the Docsminder Client, so that is another 50 megs.
- A TCP/IP network is required. If you want to connect to an external system - ie the server
is at another physical location, you need an Internet connection.
- The Docsminder server listens on Port 9090 (by default) for users, and 9099 for administration. So your firewall needs to allow these ports through. These ports can be changed if required, though.
- You can install the server as a Service - for this you will need Administrator rights for the installation.
- To be practical, you will need a broadband Internet connection with a fixed IP address. If you do not have a fixed IP address, then you will need to connect through a dynamic IP service. If you need help with this, feel free to contact our support staff for pointers.
- The Docsminder Server can be downloaded from the Internet, or provided on CDROM. It comes with an installation program that installs everything required and sets up all of the default administration functions. If you have extra databases, you will have to set those up yourself using the Administration tool provided for this purpose.
