Initial Server Configuration

When the Docsminder Server is installed, everything is already configured for you, except any custom or additional databases that you might have.

To setup ANYTHING on the Server, you need to run the Docsminder Server Administration program - NOT the Docsminder Server. Mind you, you must also have the Docsminder Server running as well.

Running the administration program

Run the Docsminder Administration program. Then select the Connect Options button. You will need to make sure that the settings here allow you to connect to the server. The following settings should be set..

IP Address - this should already be set for you.
Admin Port - 9099
Client Port - 9090
Username - DocsminderAdmin
Password - brisbane

Then press the Login to Server button.

Adding a database

During installation, we installed two - a blank database that you will eventually use for your own purposes, and a Sample database that we provide for training and testing purposes. There is in fact no limit to the number of databases that you can use with Docsminder, but we start with just two.

If you want to let your users have access to these two databases only, then there is nothing that you need do. They are setup.

To add another database, go to the Databases screen and press the Add button. Then simply point to a folder that contains your (already existing) Docsminder database. Then Save it. That is it. This database will now be visible to any Docsminder client that logs in to the Server.

If you do not have a folder with an existing database in it - simply copy the blank one that we provide. It is usually in the folder 'c:\program files\docsminder server\databases\data'. There is also a file called 'c:\program files\docsminder server\databases\clean_data.rar' that contains a clean database that you can extract to any folder that you like.
