Configuration : Local Server |

InstallationThis setup is very similar to the Local - MultiClient setup - except in this case we actually put the database on a central server. We do not put it on one of the workstation computers. The problem with putting the database on a working computer is just that - it is generally working doing something else. The person using that computer could be doing a large MS Word mail-merge at the time another user is trying to get a report from Docsminder. Or the person could even be late for work, and that particular computer might not even be turned on. It is far better to remove the database to a central, dedicated server computer. You install the Docsminder (client) software on every office computer that needs to run it. You setup the Docsminder data folder on the server computer. This is simply a folder, so you can just copy it over. You then share that data folder (using the standard Windows "Share" functions) so that all users on your office network can see that folder. You can map the shared folder to a drive letter that is uniform over your network (ie map it to F:\, for example). You will have to perform this mapping on every computer, of course. You can also use a UNC path and point to the shared folder as "\\servercomputer\shared data path" Please note - while we user the term "server computer" here, this is a generic term describing the function the computer is serving. It does not have to be a special "server" computer in the hardware sense, nor does it have to run any Windows Server operating system. LicencingYou will need to licence Docsminder to work on each and every computer. You can only obtain a Lite, Professional or Corporate licence (no Enterprise)
